Deep Cleaning vs Regular Cleaning: What is the Difference?

May 29, 2026 · 2 min read

People use these terms interchangeably, but they mean different things. If you are about to book a cleaning and are not sure which one you need, here is the plain version.

Regular cleaning (maintenance)

This is the weekly or biweekly clean that keeps your home at a consistent level. Kitchens, bathrooms, floors, dusting, surfaces. The kind of clean that means you never have to do a big catch-up.

Best for: families who want their home to stay clean between visits. The less time between cleans, the faster each visit goes and the less it costs per visit.

What it typically includes: wiping kitchen and bathroom surfaces, cleaning toilets and sinks, vacuuming and mopping floors, dusting visible surfaces, emptying bins, making beds if requested.

What it usually does not include: inside the oven, behind the fridge, window tracks, baseboards, inside cabinets. These are deep clean items.

Deep cleaning

A deep clean covers everything a regular clean does, plus the places that get skipped in daily life. Think: behind the toilet, inside the oven, soap scum on shower doors, grout lines, light fixtures, window sills, baseboards, cabinet fronts.

Best for: first-time cleanings (to set a baseline), seasonal refreshes (spring or fall), before hosting guests, after renovations, or if it has been more than a month since the last professional clean.

How long it takes: 3 to 6 hours depending on the home. A regular clean might take 2 to 3 hours for the same space.

How much more it costs: a deep clean typically costs 50% to 100% more than a regular clean for the same home. But you only need it once. After that, regular maintenance keeps it there.

Which one do you need?

If your home has been cleaned professionally in the last month and you want to keep it that way: regular clean.

If it has been a while, if you are moving in or out, or if you want every corner touched: deep clean first, then switch to regular.

Not sure? That is what the walk-through is for. We look at your space and tell you honestly which one makes sense. Request a walk-through.
